Try a warming drink from Charles Dickens’s recipe. Punch turns out strong, so it is better to serve it in small portions.
Cut off some of the zest from the lemons. Squeeze the juice out of the fruit.
Put sugar in the pan, add the zest, rum, and brandy. Heat over low heat.
Be very careful: the mass can ignite.
Pour in the lemon juice and boiling water.
If necessary, add more sugar at this stage.
Bring to a very light boil, cover, and cook for 10 minutes.
