A refrigerator is not a cheap purchase; therefore, we are all interested in making this irreplaceable device work as long as possible. You can extend its lifespan up to 20 years just by following simple tips. Read more in this article.
1. Clean the condenser from dust
You probably know that you need to do this but put it off until the last moment. Take it and see what’s going on with the condenser of your refrigerator. You might be amazed at how much dust has already accumulated on it.

The condenser must be cleaned in time. It performs an important heat exchange function and protects the compressor from overheating.
Timely cleaning of the condenser helps to extend the life of the refrigerator by 10, 15, and sometimes even 20 years. This is what gives the simplest action, which can be performed only once or twice a year (more often if desired).
In old refrigerators, the condenser is located at the back, and in new ones – at the bottom. It will not be difficult for you to clean it while you mop the kitchen floor. Just remove the appropriate panel. To clean the condenser located on the back of the refrigerator, you will have to move it away from the wall.
It is best to turn off the refrigerator before cleaning the condenser. To avoid damage, carefully use a vacuum cleaner or a special brush. You can use both. The brush will help remove stubborn dirt. Remember to clean the fan as well.
2. Fill the refrigerator correctly
The more things you have in the refrigerator, the less cold air in it. No need to fill the refrigerator to overflowing. This will prevent the efficient cooling of every food you keep in it. Try to distribute the contents evenly throughout the refrigerator.
3. Find the right place for the refrigerator
This should be done immediately after purchasing the refrigerator, but it is not too late to rearrange it. Do not push the refrigerator into tight spaces to avoid obstructing air circulation.
Do not also forget that the refrigerator should not be located near heating appliances or in direct sunlight. It should not be placed on heated floors. Either do not insulate the kitchen floor at all or leave the area for the refrigerator uncovered.
4. Keep the refrigerator door seal clean
Obviously, with the seal’s good work, cold air will remain inside the refrigerator, and warm air will not penetrate it. The sealant can be cleaned with soap and water. Avoid harsh cleansers.

For the seal to the last longer, open the refrigerator door correctly. To do this, you need to use only the door handle or a special button. You ruin the seal with your fingers. To check the seal’s tightness, take a sheet of paper and press it down by closing the refrigerator door. If it falls out or is easily removed, then, obviously, the seal is worn out, and it is time to replace it.
5. Organize the food in the refrigerator correctly
We often do not attach much importance to the location of food in the refrigerator but in vain. It is not for nothing that the instructions contain recommendations on which place is best for storing certain foods.
Correct placement will make it easy to find the food you want and not keep the door open for too long (which will undoubtedly deteriorate the refrigerator). In different refrigerators, the temperature is not the same, so the recommendations must be followed not to overload the device.
