First, rinse them thoroughly under running water, washing them vigorously to remove dirt particles. Then, lather with the old, expensive, and fragrant Marseille soap in pieces. Leave your tea towels to soak for some time. After a few hours, wash them again well and vigorously.
Rinse them and -if the stains have not yet disappeared or the color is still gray – try lathering them again while still soaking in soap. If they still don’t live up to your expectations and if the fabric allows it, there is no other solution than to put them in the bleach. It is a drastic solution but, to restore the whiteness and above all to sanitize, there is nothing better than sodium hypochlorite, contained in a small percentage inside the bleach, commonly available on the market. To use it in the right dose – a glass for every ten liters of water is recommended. In this concentration, it is a whitener and a sanitizer that knows no rivals.

After leaving them to soak in water and bleach for about half an hour, you can squeeze them and put them in the washing machine with a rinse-only program. If, on the other hand, the stains and the white are already out after the second wash then you can proceed to sanitize the scrubbers by immersing them in water, with a few drops of Tea Tree Oil or lavender oil. Both of these essential oils have good sanitizing properties and also leave a great scent.
